Default PrintScreen on a AVI file

I am trying to get a still picture from an AVI file. I play this file in
Windows Media Player, pause at the frame required and then press PrintScreen
buittom on the keyboard.
However an attempt to paste the clipboard into Paint gives a strange effect
as it the resulting image is a sort of multilayered. I can drug part or the
image inside another part
Why is it like that and how can I exstract a frame from a movie like AVI as
a JPEG file?

Try this. Open MediaPlayer and go to Tools-Options Tab. Slide the "Video
Acceleration" all the way to the left (none). Click Apply. and OK out.

Play the file and press the PrintScreen key when you see a frame you want to
save. You can then paste the result into the program of your choice. However
this will likely capture the whole screen. Personally I use PrintKey
http://www.webtree.ca/newlife/printkey_info.htm which is a little app that
resides in the systray. When you press the PrintScreen Key you get and
option to select the "Rectangle" Tool. The Media Player screen freezes and
you can then drag the cursor around the part of the frame you want to
capture. I suspect other screen capture tools also work

BTW. You may wish to reset the Video Acceleration again later.

A free program, IRFANVIEW [Google will find it} can extract
all the individual frames [pictures] from AVI and mpg files.

Hello,

Simply hit Ctrl+I (I for Ivory) in your keyboard in Windows Media Player.

When you want to take a few screenshots from a movie clip in Windows
Media Player, press PrintScreen, paste it in an image editing program,
and you get a black screen. The reason for this is due to Hardware
Acceleration being enabled. But you can turn this feature off.
In Windows Media Player, go to Tools Options "Performance" tab.
Move the Hardware Acceleration Slider to None.
