Default old xp machine reformatted - no playback device

Hi everybody,

I have an old (2005) LG PC which I recently reformatted with XP.
Unfortunately, I dont have the audio drivers so it doesnt detect the
on-board audio. Also I dont know how to find out which audio
driver is needed, because there is no documentation for that old PC.
Where do I start?

Regards,
Ravindra

Read the model number off the back. As it's only 8 years
old, there will be plenty of information available.

If you're desperate, you can use things like DriverAgent
or similar. These are programs and web sites, that
identify the hardware for you. I do not like this
method, but some people do like to find drivers this way.

You could try a program like this, to list the sound card.

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/pc-wizard.html

Unfortunately, I don't have any program which is good
at all aspects of hardware detection. Sometimes it takes
more than one program, like the pc-wizard, to figure it out.
There is Belarc Advisor, Everest, AIDA64, Sisoftware Sandra,
each of which have limits as to the information they can provide.

I prefer to start with the computer model number, and then see what
a search engine can offer on the topic.

You can also use a Linux LiveCD, and use the "hwinfo" program,
but you'd need to be a Linux user to know how to run command
line programs from the Terminal.

Use Everest to analyse the hardware.
