Default 100% cpu utilisation

I'm using Windows XP Pro on Intel 4 2GHz and Epson FX-870
printer connected to LPT. Before upgrading to Win XP this
printer worked OK on Win 98. Now every print rises cpu
utilisation up to 100%. On Microsoft support pages I
found out I should consider buying LPT to USB cable. Is
this the only solution to the problem? I'm also usin some
other printers on other Win XP Pro machines both matrix
and laser and none of other machines is acting as one
with FX-870 installed on it. Suggestions please
