SP2 problem I can't live with

David Jabaroth wrote: HI Joshua. Just upgrated my PC to win xp sp2 rtm. Got the same problem as you with hanging. Try to find out witch driver there cause the problem, uninstall it and injoy SP2 Best regards David Jabaroth I'm having the same problem with my Canon Multipass F60. I'm working with Canon right now, but no joy so far. I am starting to suspect that whatever in SP2 that causes problems with programs using 127.0.0.2 (turning the firewall off does not improve things -- this blocking seems to be deeper than that) is causing the problem with our Canon multifunction machines, since Mpservice communicates using that IP. If anyone can confirm that, please let both Canon and MS know -- the sooner this is fixed the better. This involves a signed driver, too. And the answer from Canon was to change the IP entry in MpNetIpc.ini from 127.0.0.2 to 127.0.0.1 It worked. YMMV |

SP2 problem I can't live with
The problem is limited to installation; once installed, it works fine.
So if you have 5.2 installed, DO NOT remove it. Also, I believe that the problem only occurs with SOME AMD CPUs, not with other models and not with Intel CPUs (specifically, it occurs only with CPUs that support a relatively new feature, the "execute only" flag). I believe that there is a workaround, but I don't recall what it is (although I just read about it today). It may have to do with [temporarily] removing support for "execute only" in SP2. Larry wrote: Joshua: I have read that DivX 5.2 presents problems within XP SP2. If you have this version of DivX installed, you should uninstall it, reboot, and see what happens. I have also heard that the prior version of DivX, v5.1, does not generate this problem in SP2. So if uninstalling v5.2 works for you, then you may want to consider installing v5.1 if you must have DivX. Larry "Joshua Heslinga" wrote in message ... I have a Dell Latitude D600 that came with XP SP1 on it. (More details about the computer below.) I recently installed SP2 (the full, RTM, English version). The install seemed to go fine, the computer initially seemed to work, and I like the SP2 features, but I then discovered a problem that I can't live with. Whenever I right-click in Explorer, the Explorer process seems to hang (the computer just sits for a while and you can't do anything). By Explorer, I mean Windows Explorer or the Windows shell, NOT IE. The first time this happens, it'll restart Explorer and generate an error report. The second and subsequent times, Explorer doesn't restart, and you have to reboot. This problem does not happen with right-clicking inside an application (e.g. Word). I would be inclined to assume a 3rd party software conflict, and I do have some utilities installed, but the problem occurs in XP Safe Mode too, when none of these utilities should be active. I opted to uninstall SP2 for now, and sure enough, the problem went away. Obviously, uninstalling SP2 isn't a long term solution. And no, I'm not interested in anyone whose solution is not to install SP2 right away. Microsoft hasn't updated a released service pack to fix a bug since NT 4 SP6. XP SP2 is important, so I have to solve the problem eventually. Thanks for any help people can offer. SP2 problem I can't live with

What? It is not Microsoft's responsibility to ensure that every software package out there won't cause system problems and conflicts with their software. They make the SP candidate available to developers and then it is the DEVELOPERS job to make sure the conflicts are taken care of. How about when your software works fine with all the betas, and the release candidates. Then the RTM version comes out, everyone is downloading it, and it is different, and your software no longer works. You've lost any lead time to develop a fix. I am a developer, I have checked my software with every version from Windows 95 to XP SP2 RC2 and it has worked perfectly. I've done my due dilligence. But when MS changes things between the last RC and the full release, what are we supposed to do? |

SP2 problem I can't live with
It does not work for me after changing the IP.
however I manage to get my canon printer MPC190 working after the SP2 upgrade + no more "hang" when opening window explorer. what i did. (logged) CHEERS!!! 1. Boot in Safe Mode 2. Remove all multipass software from add/remove programme 3. Delete the default folder for Canon Multipass (programs folder) 4. Open registry and search for "canon" & "multipass" 5. Delete all related registry highlighted for the above 6. Restart PC and start windows normally 7. Install Multipass software and Driver for Printer. 8. CHEERS!!! It Works.... *tinker* I guess the printer driver could not do a proper migration/installation during the windows update to Service Pack 2. Need to do a fresh install.
