SP2 Disaster for XP here; Not solved yet.
- Jim Berwick -
Wouldn't the real "big mistake" be putting home and cell numbers on a newsgroup post? - Nehmo - My worst enemies already know my phone numbers. The same numbers are printed on advertisements for my business. I've posted them before on web sites and in NGs. I'm in more than one phone directory. I'm not overwhelmed with phone traffic - not even solicitation calls. I would be more than pleased to get a call on this XP SP2 problem. -- ********************* * Nehmo Sergheyev * ********************* |

- "old" devildog -
posting you phone numbers? are you nuts! because I know ... you live in the 913 area code .... Kansas City, Ks area ... and your cell phone 816 is from the Kansas City, Mo area. now that we all know guess what expect a clone of your cell phone by a crook and many new long distant phone calls to your phone number - Nehmo - My address and phone numbers are publicly available. Anybody can have them. They've been that way for years. You are welcome to handle your own personal info differently. The issue is an unsuccessful installation of SP2. -- ********************* * Nehmo Sergheyev * ********************* |

Root,
Huge waste of time. There's a purpose in going to SP2. Make an effort to get SP2 working correctly. You'll have to eventually. There is very likely NO sudden hotfix coming that's gonna make SP2 work better next time. No you don't have to go to xp sp2. Like I could go back to 98se. oh wait. I have a dual boot system and use 98se. Actual, I still use windows 95 on my old computer. Greg R http://www.angelfire.com/in4/computertips/ |

SP2 Disaster for XP here; Not solved yet.
I'm now running off an old 15 GB HD that has XP working. I attached my
120 GB HD (the one that wouldn't boot after I installed SP2 [I also tried system restore and a repair install to no avail]) as a slave, and I can see everything. So far nobody has suggested any new method of getting things working, and MS hasn't called back. I uploaded svcpack.log, if anybody wants to look at it. I don't know enough to make any sense out of it. http://home.kc.rr.com/plumb/svcpack.log I updated AVG anti-virus and ran a check. Nothing found. I ran scndsk (on both drives for good measure), and it found nothing either. I'm now going to disconnect the 15 GB and setup the 120 GB as the single master. I'm going to try the instructions on http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];875355 " INTRODUCTION This article discusses how to use the Automatic Recovery feature to recover your computer to its previous configuration if the installation of Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) is not completed successfully. Use the procedure that is discussed in this article to recover your computer to a bootable state and to remove Windows XP SP2 if Windows does not start correctly after you try to upgrade your computer from Windows XP to Windows XP SP2. This article also discusses how to collect information about the Windows XP SP2 installation and about your computer to help troubleshoot and diagnose the issue. Recover your computer to a bootable state and remove Windows XP SP2 To recover your computer to a bootable state and remove Windows XP SP2, follow these steps: 1. Note Your computer must be configured to start from the CD drive or DVD drive. For more information about how to do this, see your computer's documentation or contact your computer manufacturer. b. When the "Press any key to boot from CD" message appears, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD. c. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen is displayed, press R to start the Recovery Console. d. When you are prompted, type the number that corresponds to the installation of Windows that you want to access from the Recovery Console, and then press ENTER. For example, if you have one installation of Windows on your computer, type 1, and then press ENTER. e. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password, and then press ENTER. 2. At the command prompt in Recovery Console, type the following lines. Press ENTER after each line. cd $NtServicePackUninstall$\Spuninst batch spuninst.txt exit 3. Remove the Windows XP CD from your computer's CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer. 4. Run the Windows XP SP2 Removal Wizard to remove Windows XP SP2. To do this: a.
