Default Active Desktop - How to re-install it ?

Hello!

My computer run Windows XP (family edition) as operating system and further
to a wrong manipulation, the functionalities of Active Desktop are not
available any more. More precisely :

- when I make a right click on my desktop, in the contextual menu ,which
apparait, I have no more the following options for the "Graphic" and '
"Active Desktop" ;

- when I go in the 'Display' (Control panel) I don't have anymore the tab
'Web' and therefore I cannot check option any more ' to Show my Active
Desktop office as a Web page ';
- when I go in 'Files options' (Control panel) I don't have anymore the
group of radio button about Active Desktop.

Somebody could explain me how to re-activate or re-install these options on
my computer, which seems that all have somthing to do with Active Desktop,
but perhaps I'm wrong.

Thank you for your help.

My computer run Windows XP (family edition)

No such version. There are five editions of Windows XP:
Windows XP Professional
Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

If you have XP Home...
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Read the instructions at the top

Get both of these.

16. Active Desktop - Enable or Disable
Click on Enable
activedesktop.vbs is the that you want.

177. Restore the Web Tab - Display Properties
webtabmissing.reg is the file that you want.

Thank you very much for your help.

I tried all your propositions, unfortunately they had no effect on my
problem. I'm still blocked in the same situation ;-(

I have "Windows XP Home éditon", sorry for the confusion on the name, in
French it's call "Family édition".

Thank you and all other suggestions are welcome.

Hi Tyo,

I tried all your propositions, unfortunately they had no effect on my
problem. I'm still blocked in the same situation ;-(

Did you reboot after applying activedesktop.vbs and webtabmissing.reg from
Kelly's?

I have "Windows XP Home Addition", sorry for the confusion on the name, in
French it's call "Family Addition".

Ah, language translations.

I translated Home Edition from English to French and got dition la
maison. I translated dition la maison from French to English and got
Edition at the house. shrug

I say, "I translated" more like Google translated.

Default Active Desktop - How to re-install it ?

Hi Wesley Vogel

" Did you reboot after applying activedesktop.vbs and webtabmissing.reg from
Kelly's?

Yes I did! And the first time I ran activedesktop.vbs, I got the message :
"Active Desktop is now DISABLED", so I ran a second time the script to have
the message "Active Desktop is now ENABLED", and I rebooted my computer. But
nothing change :-(((

I have "Windows XP Home Addition", sorry for the confusion on the name, in
French it's call "Family Addition".

http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en

Try http://freetranslation.imtranslator.net/ it's a little bit better then
Google translator, or use online dictionary you can find a lot on
www.lexilogos.com or only for French-English www.granddictionnaire.com for
all technical words, the are very practical web sites but in French ...

Thank you very much for your help.

But noone has them in XP. What are these entries supposed to do. You can speak frog as I have translation tables for XP. I haven't read this link but the page starts with the same paragraph as what I use.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en..._word_list.htm

Although DE would tend to indicate this is the German one. But on my copy there is a DLB with language choice.

I use your translation tables for XP and this is the result:

My computer run Windows XP home edition as operating system and further to a

any more. More precisely:

menu) ,which appear, I have no more the following options for the "Graphic

menu item there are the options: "Customize the desktop", "New desktop item",
"Show as a web page", "Show the desktop’s icons”, "Lock the desktop’s items",
"Synchronize" and "My home page".

- when I go in the "Display" (Control panel) I don't have anymore the tab
"Web" and therefore I can’t check any more the option "to Show my Active
Desktop office as a Web page ";

- when I go in "Folder Options" (Control panel) I don't have anymore the
group of radio button about Active Desktop.

Somebody could explain me how to re-activate or re-install these options on

I didn't find all terms into your translation tables, but I hope it's a
little bit more clear to understand and that you can help me.

Thank you! Tyo

If Graphic Properties the bottom item (called just Properties on a english language version). Also Active Desktop is no longer a menu item. Some of the entries on here got moved to Arrange Icons By - some are buried deep in Desktop's Properties.

Hi David Candy,

Ok, I can understand that some functionalities and menus can change or move
when the version of the program change. But in my case my computer crash and
when I reboot it these menu items have just disappear, quit strange ... It
look's like it's magic, but I know IT has nothing to do with magic ... and
now I don't find the Active Desktop functionality anywhere. I don’t really
understand the reason that my menu items change suddenly. Is that due to an
update of Windows XP?

Do you know if there is a possibility to restore the old items menu? Or if
it’s impossible, do you know where can I found Active Desktop functionality
now, with this new menu configuration?

Thank you for your help.

Post a picture of what you have. Right click background to get menu, Press Prt Screen key, paste into MSPaint (type mspaint into Start Run), edit the image size, save as a GIF file, then save as a png file, attach png file.

There are french groups. Although one seems to be about society's young ladies stepping out (debutant ball is a ladies first ball in English). Suppose it might mean new user in French.

news://msnews.microsoft.com

The newsgroups dialog will pop up and enter search term
..fr.w

which will show all french windows groups. You can find this dialog a second time on the Tools menu in OE.

I did the prints screen as you explain it to me, but I don't know how to
attach my png files to my answer. I have only two data fields, one for the
object of the answer, second for the body message. A two buttons : Publish
and Quit. But nothing to attache a file?

I didn't make it clear. You use the same procedure to find french groups to also find this one.

Click below link.

news://msnews.microsoft.com

The newsgroups dialog in a program called Outlook Express (OE) will pop up and enter search term (for this group)
..customize

which will show this Customize Window XP group. You can find this dialog a second time on the Tools menu in OE.

If this is the first time it's done any newsgroup things it will probably want to know your name (Tyo - funny name even for a Frenchman) and email. Use for your email. Then when the group loads you can go View menu - Current View - Show Replies To My Messages to only see threads that the person who has used the email has participated in. I assume that is only 1.

To make life easier this link will configure the account (as the first link only did) and the group.

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...wsxp.customize

To see just your last post - if you cant configure OE just click below and choose Reply To Group on the toolbar then Insert menu - File Attachment and choose your pic. You won't see the pic till you view it in the group. And there are security settings that control this so you may not even then - but I will.
