Default microphone problems

i would like to be able to record and use the microphone
but do not know how to get it to work. i also noticed i do
not have the speech recognition when i troubleshoot. how
do i get the mic to work? do i have to add it as new
hardware? windows xp..brand new computer...thanks

Afternoon,
Also while you are in the Volume Control, click on
OPTIONS and then PROPERTIES and then look to see if there
is a checkmark next to MIC. If there is no checkmark, put
one in.

Also regarding Speech recognition--- It will not work

unless you install a seperate program that will use it. I
think Office XP will work with it. Might want to check
with Microsoft Knowledge Base about it.
I had done some digging and found some info there and I
also checked with HP tech support about it . Need seperate
program to use it or even to change from the Microsoft Sam
voice!!!
