Remote Assistance via Messengers
I am trying to remotely assist another novice user but we cannot connect to
each other. It gives me an error that states unable to resolve host name. We are both behind routers (Linksys). Both routers are UPnP capable but are not enabled. 1. Do we need to enable UPnP on both routers in order for us to connect? 2. Do we both need to enable UPnP and SSDP Discovery Services within Windows XP? 3. Do we need to open port 3389 on both routers? Any help provided will be much appreciated. |

The software firewall ports on both computers are open. When you refer to
your firewall, is it a hardware (router firewall) or software firewall? And exactly which ports did you open? I've port forwarded 3389 on both routers. If any one has any answers in regard to my questions about UPnP and routers please share your informnation with me...thnx. Thnx for trying. I'm certain that its not the software firewall thats
causing the problem, its the routers(Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 & WRTP54G). If the expert or novice removes their router and connects directly from the cable modem to the computer, we remotely connect just fine. "Thomas Colgan" wrote: i opened ports 3658. Software firewall. Johnathan,
Thanks for your assistance and reply. One more question, when enabling UPnP and SSDP Discovery Services on both the novice and expert computer should the "Startup type" be set to Automatic or Manual ?
