Problems with SP1 and SP2
You downloaded SP2? Where did you download SP2 from? SP2 is in beta and not
available for public download. -- Thanks, Marc Reynolds Microsoft Technical Support This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. "Anopheles" wrote in message ... I have just reinstalled Windows XP Pro after reformatting for the first time in two years. Prior to formatting, I downloaded SP1, SP2 and the two associated language packs. Now, trying to install these upgrades, they are being rejected as not appropriate, the error message saying something like the software was not what was expected. I used to get the same message previously when I tried upgrading it when the packs first came out. I have done this by the book, and have re-registered the software online. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong? Anopheles |

Problems with SP1 and SP2
From looking at your message headers, if this is the same PC that you
downloaded SP1 and SP2, then the download did not work as you have a rather old version of OE/IE. SP2 is not available to the general public, only Beta Testers, MSDN and TechNet subscribers. Since it is still very much in Beta you have an illegal copy. Where did you download it ? SP2 is a rather large download... -- Tedd Riggs PDA Square Content Developer www.pdasquare.com Redmond, WA "Anopheles" wrote in message ... Windows XP has an SP1 - but its SP2 is still in Beta and there are no 'language packs' associated. So I think you are talking of packs for *Office* XP, and should look for guidance to the *office* newsgroups -- Alex Nichol MS MVP (Windows Technologies) Bournemouth, U.K. (remove the D8 bit) |

Problems with SP1 and SP2
From the Microsoft XP update site, Marc. They are labeled; oxpsp1, oxpsp2, lpksp1 and lpksp2. Retracing my steps, I see now that I've downloaded an Office update rather than the XP ones.
