If you are running Windows 7 Pro or above you download and install
Windows XPMode. This is a virtual program that runs WinXP Pro which has
OE installed in it. Doing some research with Google you will find some
instructions for attaching XPMode programs to your Windows 7 Desktop. I
have an icon on my Windows 7 Pro desktop that when I click on that
starts XPMode, loads OE, and OE-QuoteFix. It runs OE just fine.

Yes, Windows Live Mail. It's crap.

I tried outlook 2001, but found it bulky and a lot
of functions I'd never would use. I just want a simple Microsoft email

Thunderbird.

Yes, I agree entirely with the assessment of WLM, which I used for a
total of a week when I got Windows 7. I switched to Thunderbird for
email and news groups and currently am fairly satisfied.

Since I didn't like TB, I guess it's a matter of using the
personally-to-me-least-unlikeable program. :-)

I have also been using Outlook for things I want to sync with on my phone --
where I do *not* *NOT* want everything I have in my general
mail/contacts/etc. IOW I use Outlook for my "mobile" stuff. At least, I was
doing that in XP, I haven't yet started doing it in W7 (until I get my old
computer back w/ the backup files I don't want to start mucking with data
that I'd then have to coordinate, yuck!)

I put Thunderbird on this XP desktop to try it out and I absolutely
DETESTED it. I am a dyed in the wool OE user of some 14 years and for
some strange reason, when I imported my email into T-bird, I had 300,000
kb's showing up in the Inbox according to Windows Explorer, but not
showing up in the program itself.

And I couldn't find any way to hide the read messages.......that really
ticked me off. So I uninstalled it and guess I will go with just web
mail on my laptop. And use this computer for news groups.

Or perhaps one of you kind souls can tell me how to get rid of the WLM
2011 prog and install the older one. I rather like Windows 7 and just
want to get it into *familiar mode*.

Other question........totally different. If I install that SourceForge
prog which changes Startup and Windows Explorer to XP style, is it
removeable in case I have to??? I much prefer the XP style.

Thanks.........Heather (aka Figgs)

OK so I (maybe) messed up separating quotes from my reply.
I did try. I just wasn't good enough for you, or you didn't like --
or didn't understand -- the way I did it.

You'll just have to deal with people like me who aren't all you would wish.
(Or, of course, KF.) Life is full of these little disappointments &
accomodations.

I don't have another usenet client that I can use & right now is a really
bad time to go looking -- not that I liked the one or two that I tried a
year or so ago (under XP) -- TB & I forget what else.

It can be removed via Control Panel/Programs and Features. Look for Windows
Live entries.
The older version can be downloaded he

Exact same screwed up situation happened here also when I tried it out. As fast as I
installed Thunderbird it is as fast that I uninstalled it

Oh yes I did.....and nothing worked. There was nada under
View-Thread-Unread that I could see. I may be a novice with T-bird,
Sunshine, but I am not a novice with OE.

I wasn't quite *that* fast & don't remember the details, it probably took me
a week or so to get around to dumping it (it got such rave reviews I wanted
to give it a decent chance to work for me) -- I went back to OE for a while
but I was still using XP and realized that someday I'd have to move on & OE
would no longer be an option. I did come to terms with WLM2009, still under
XP -- but I've been suddenly catapulted into W7 along with WLM 2011 & it's
all giving me fits & vapours.
