If I leave my PC for a short time it goes back to the logon screen. Can I
lengthen the time before it goes back?

There are 2 things that can cause this. First this can happen when the
screen save comes up and you move to mouse or press a key to resume
work. The other is in the power settings that after a certain period of
time the system goes into stand-by mode, the upon resuming you're
required to enter a password. Let's take the on one at a time.

First right-click on a empty area of your desktop, then select
Properties in the drop-down menu. Next click on the Screen saver tab.
Here you can do one of two things, either disable the screen saver or
clear the checkmark where is says "On resume, password protect".

Next let's check the power settings. While you're at the Screen Saver
tab, click on the Power... button. Next click on the Advanced tab, and
clear the checkmark on the line that says "Prompt for password when
computer resumes from standby".
