Sounds
I've kept (in control panel) "sound" set as "none".
during the night there was a Widows update. Today, an old game suddenly has annoying sounds --- yet "sounds" is still set at "none" ? How do I get rid of these sounds? |

Turn off your speakers. the Sounds applet only applies to Windows sounds. That doesn't stop sounds in programs or in webpages. Example: Imgburn plays something like a Mexican band when it writes a CD/DVD. I can change that in Settings or I can delete the WAV file. You could do that with all of your software if you want to listen to background music or allow sound on websites. Or you can just turn off your speakers. I only turn them on when I want to specifically listen to something. Much of what I do on the computer requires concentration and sound is just a jarring, irrelevant interruption to those activities. |

How do I get rid of these sounds? Windows 7 has this. https://i.stack.imgur.com/hLIlX.jpg But I would not expect the "slider-per-application" to actually stop what you're hearing. It's a bit more unpredictable than that. While that interface looks pretty, it comes with no guarantees. Squeaks and squawks can still come out of LineOut, no matter what you do. Paul |
