Default Media Player 12 Question

I couldn't find an appropriate newsgroup that anyone was using so I
thought I'd try here. Win 7 Pro SP1 64-bit current om important updates.

Question 1: I use playlists to access radio stations and some song
collections. It seems that I can have no more than 5 shown at any one
time. I would like to have more listed but can find no option or any
hint as to how to increase this number. Anybody have a handle on this
one? I now have to open some playlists from a directory when not displayed.

Question 2: There is no Windows Media Player Rip choice for Autorun when
a CD is inserted. Did MS have a wet dream when designing this stuff or
am I missing something? To use WM 12 to rip, I have turned Autorun off
for CD's and must open WM BEFORE inserting the CD (with a WM option set
to rip immediately). This seems crazy so I must have something set up
wrong. If I don't have the rip immediately option set before the CD is
inserted, I can't even open the rip function.

Concerning Question 2: Don't use the wrong tools. Windows MP is not for
ripping. Use EAC instead.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure EAC is a good tool but I'd like to use
WMP as I did under XP for years. I have ripped hundreds of CDs and am
happy with the quality and the way the program functions. I want to know
what the hell is wrong at this point. Can you help me with the original
questions? Even a pointer to a function WMP news group/list would help.

The only options that come close for Win7 and Win 8x are to choose to
open Media Player when inserted (Autoplay) and configure MP to rip CD
automatically(MP options/Rip Music tab). There are reports that some
CD's when inserted either cause Windows to ignore the configuration
settings or in the case of audio cd's with video content play the video
prior to identifying the track information (necessary for ripping).

With the advent of Windows 7, MP must be open to rip any cd that change
was actually by popular demand from feedback generated during the XP era
due to a dislike for Autoplay functionality (perceived as a 'nagging
dialog box').

Thanks for the information; I am already configured as you suggest. It
is as bad as I feared; why MS couldn't have designed Autoplay to
actually turn off the annoying box for those who wanted that I don't
know. I have also found that PhotoShop in 7 doesn't Autoplay its load
pictures options either. But that isn't a problem for this forum.

It was/is also perceived as dangerous, thanks to Sony.

Thanks for reminding me, I forgot about those Sony issues (DRM
auto-install - CD recall and use of rootkit code for hiding files. and
uninstall method increasing system security vulnerability)

I'm sorry I can't help you with the other question. I don't use MP. I
use VLC for playing video and Winamp for playing sound.
