Default Standby - modem to blame?

My computer has started to refuse to go on standby from my user account,
although it will from the login screen. Just asking -- can a cable modem
stop a machine from going on standby? I noticed that with the modem
disconnected one time the problem disappeared. Why would it start doing
this?

It may be that your BIOS setup has set the "S3" option to "Wake on Ring"

bios setup access keys. Go to:
