Upon the download of auto updates on the first day I recieved my new Dell
Studio XPS, the opacity of my sidebar went to grey. I looked at the
setting.ini, but found notihing that appears to address this issue. Does
anyone have a fix or suggestion?

This is an XP group - suggest you try reposting to a Vista one.

...and we'd know this in an XP newsgroup how? Please use a Vista newsgroup
for a lot better support on Vista. E.G.:
microsoft.public.windows.vista.general
