Exit Failure in Windows Messenger
I use Windows Messenger. However, there are times when I'd
like to exit the program. When I right-click the icon in my system tray and select "exit" I get a message telling me that there are other applications using features provided by Messenger. That I must close these applications before I can exit. And, that these programs include Outlook, Outlook Express, MSN Explorer, and Internet Explorer. None of these programs are running, however. This is also a fairly new development, and I suspect that Window's Automatic Updating has something to do with it. I can force Messenger to close using "Ctrl"+"Alt"+"Delete", however I'd rather not rely on this method. Hopefully someone can tell me how to fix Messenger so it will exit on command. |

Exit Failure in Windows Messenger
Greetings Rich,
Do you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed? Norton added a new "instant messaging scanning" feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict with Messenger and cause this behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "Rich" wrote in message ...
