365 is a subscription that provides locally installed Office
applications in addition to providing (during the subscription term) the
latest version when available/released.

You must purchase Office (stand-alone) - a subscription to 365 is not
covertable to a stand-alone version.

Buying Office 365 gets you all the local components (Word, etc). On
your computer, you will be running Office 2013 (since the Ofc365
subscription gives you the latest version of Office).

https://products.office.com/en-us/office-365-home

Full installed Office applications
Always have the latest, full installed versions of Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, and Access and capture your
ideas however you work best—using a keyboard, pen, or touchscreen.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between Office 2013 suites and Office 365 plans?

With Office 365 subscription plans you get the full, installed
Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook,
Publisher, and Access. (Publisher and Access are available on PC
only.) You can install Office 365 across multiple devices, including
PCs, Macs, Android tablets, Android phones, iPad, and iPhone. In
addition, with Office 365 you get services like online storage with
OneDrive and Skype minutes for home use. When you have an active
Office 365 subscription, you always have the most up-to-date version
of the Office applications.

Office as a one-time purchase includes applications such as Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint for use on a single PC or Mac. The
applications are not automatically updated; to get the latest
version, you must purchase Office again when the new version becomes
available. The latest versions currently available for one-time
purchase are Office 2013 for Windows and Office 2011 for Mac.
Previous versions include Office 2010, Office 2007, Office 2008 for
Mac, and Office 2004 for Mac. Office 2010 and Office 2007 are
compatible with Windows 8.1 and earlier. Office as a one-time
purchase does not include any of the services included in Office
365.

The Auto renew, giving M$ your credit card, makes my skin crawl.

And my customer base never saves anything. I have to jump through

Did you ask the question seeking information on Office 365 vs. Office
stand-alone knowing full well the expected reply and thus justification
to rant about Office, customer credit cards and why Libre Office should
be used ?

Did you right click OneDrive on the Win10 'All Apps' menu (the new start
menu option) and select the 'Uninstall' option before tackling any other
recommended/optional routes ?

Personally, if the nicest thing you can say about LO is that it "has started
to mature", then I'm still not interested. Because of what I do, I need a
solution that is fully compatible with MS Office. At the moment, that
appears to be only MS Office. Close doesn't cut it.

I thought that you would be running something NEWER than

Okay, how about this? LO exceeded M$0 in quality and support.
"has started to mature" is the realization of the road it
has gone down and its current status as very usable. It
has its warts though. Mind you, less than M$O.

That a better description?
