Fully (?) Functional

writes Supposedly Windows 8.1 removes these files when you clean old files from the disk. (Right click on the C drive in File Explorer, Click Disk Cleanup, Make sure you include the system files which is another check later in the operation.) The same thing happens in older version of windows, and there are programs to remove these old files. If you don't removing them they just keep accumulating taking up disk spac. If you have never run Disk Cleanup you could remove many megabytes of obsolete files. Well, the first thing that has happened is that I went out to buy the tablet a sleeve, so it was untouched. On my return the used space had increased to 8 752 300 032 bytes which is about 80MB bigger than when it was last checked. I then found the Optimise and Defragment tool, and let it optimise the SSD. I then ran disk cleanup and looked at what it was going to remove. The biggest saving would indeed have been saved Windows update files - about 99MB. I haven't actually done a cleanup yet. I think I need to do more research into all this first. While I was out it will have just sat there and slept. I suppose this might have used some of the 80MB to store temporary files? -- Bill |

The disk clean up will not damage any files. I usually run it twice, one to get the routine files and the other to get the system files. You can also run McAfee Quick clean which also works on the no longer need register files. As I said if you have not ran it before, you will be surprised at the number of worthless files on your computer. |
