Default "Generic Host for Win32 exe has encountered a problem and must clo

I'm running WinXP SP2 on a P4 3.0gHZ, 512MB ram, 120GB hard drive. I defrag
every week, do all updates, etc., and run Norton Internet Security 2005. No
junk on my PC. Akso run Spybot S&D, and Lavasoft Adaware Personal AEdition.

In the last couple of weeks i occasionally get the error message as posted
above "Generic Host for Win32 exe has encountered a problem and must close"
error message.

When it does occur, it happens upon startup, after the desktop appears and
all system tray programmes are loaded (4 of those), as well as the quick
launch and start-up button appearing.

It has the dialogue in the box to send an error report to Microsoft, or to
not send. I click the send error report, it goes through and that's it!

As stated, this does not happen every time I boot up, it's every 1 in 4-5
times or so, or can vary to longer as well.

Any ideas anyone?

Please post a copy of the error report from Event Viewer.

Make an exact note of the precise text of any error message. Minor
discrepancies can
make it harder to search for information about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

My system is similar to Ronski's and I think I am having the same problem.
When I send the error report to Microsoft, I'm automatically directed to a
Microsoft Support web page that indicates the possibility of a driver
problem. But I haven't had much luck with that. I've included a copy of 2
different the error reports I've recieved as per the directions Gerry has
provided.
