Assert Failed
My system specs a XP Home, Version 2002, SP3; HW: AMD Sempron 2500+, 1.74GHz, 1GB RAM (I know, a real screamer!) Recently started getting two error messages coming up in sequence immediately after logging in: box 1: from “Assert” ASSERT FAILED\Projects\wtKernel\src\Win32\cm\Core\cmCodeM odule.cpp:90 m_CodeHandle !=NULL “OK” box 3: from ddcmigrate.exe – Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0x80000003). Click on OK to terminate the application. “OK” Would someone please help me resolve this problem? Assert Failed
It's caused by Wild Tangent crap. Get rid of it.

Assert is not a program, it's a programming tool to help with debugging. It
should not even be in released code. It implies that some state which should exist doesn't, and that's why the particular program is halting. As mentioned, this seems to be part of the Wild Tangent game environment, so removing or disabling those should clear the problem. Here is some advice that may help you: Wild Tangent makes a lot of little games that probably came preinstalled on your computer. It usually has an updater (good to disable that). Use the System Configuration Utility to see what is starting with Windows and disable it - look for anything connected with Wild Tangent. StartRunmsconfig [enter] This brings up the System Configuration Utility. Look on the Startup tab and find the probable culprit. Uncheck the box next to its name, Apply and OK out. You don't need to restart immediately, but the next time you do you'll get a dialog saying you've used the Utility. Just tick the box that says in effect, "don't bother me about this again". I would reboot after making the MSCONFIG changes and tell the message to go away. Please let us know if this does the trick. |

DB Ben, first I salute your Armed Forces service. 2nd, thank you for the tip. If AV caught the malicious, great - at least I didn't get nailed. However, I'd still like to get rid of the nuisance messages. Did you miss the replies from John John and Jose?
Wild Tangent (games) is the suspect program. "carlh" wrote in message ... DB Ben, first I salute your Armed Forces service. 2nd, thank you for the tip. Thank you carlh for asking this question. I was having the same issue, and
everything was saying it was connected to Windows 2000. To bad I don't have that. XP is a bit different. And thank you to everyone else for the answers. I hadn't installed the wildtangent games for a few years, this time I did. BIG mistake. Now I know. Thanks to all for the help.
