Greetings Bridget,
By checking your mail, do you mean Outlook Express? If so, you can simply close Outlook Express, then download and run the following .reg file in order to stop Messenger from starting: http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...ssenger_oe.reg However, if you mean, MSN Explorer, Windows Messenger will automatically start with it, so you'll have to check via the Hotmail website instead (http://hotmail.msn.com). ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "bridget" wrote in message ... we have windows xp and windows messenger was installed automatically on our system. Greetings Louis,
You can completely remove Windows Messenger (4.7) but if you do, you will be preventing Remote Assistance, Whiteboard, and Application Sharing from working. However, assuming you don't use this functionality, you can simply remove it by closing down Messenger if it's running (right click the messenger icon in the notification area/system tray and click close). Then click the start button, then click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like): RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove Then click OK. Messenger will then be uninstalled. How do I get rid of 4.7 for good??? |
