Default Messenger 6.1 connection problem

Ever since my friend installed messenger 6 on Windows 98
we have not been able to use voice, I have XP
professional. It trys to connect but never is able.
Neither of us have routers. They upgraded to 6.1 and we
still cannot have a voice connection. Does anyone have
any ideals or suggestions on this problem and how we can
fix it?

Thanks,
David

I´m using MS Officce XP Pro SP1 plus MSN 6.1 and have a problem whenever I try to establish an audio conection. People can´t ear me and neither I can listen to them, but the Webcam images are pretty good and running well all the time in both directions.

Sometime the audio connection is established but we can´t listen each other and it goes done very soon. I´have already done a lot of tests to my WebCam and to audio devices and everything is OK.
Someone can help me to solve this problem.

Many thanks

I don't think I can help. You say 'sometimes a connection is
established". So that would rule out the connection - When I 1st
tried MSN Messenger several few weeks ago, both me and a friend were
new to it. WE had already used our logitech webcams successfully both
in audio & video with Yahoo Messenger. But with MSN messenger, when
we tried audio, it said "trying to connect with Donald", but after a
minute it aborted the attempt. (Video was ok). We tried each day
after that for 5 days. Gave up until the 7th day. 7th day, the audio
channel connected, and quickly too. No explanations. Neither of us
changed any settings.

Try Yahoo Messenger (free) with a friend. If it works, then you have
narrowed down the problem.

Also - are you at dial up speed? I find with dial up, having the
video on, and then doing audio at the same time, will get me hearing
my friend with broken up words. Dial-up speeds suck - I guess video
and audio together are too demanding on bandwidth. Has anyone ever
heard you at all, even just bits and peices?

Are you by any chance using a logitech webcam?
