Messenger Freezes and Makes me ReBoot when I am playing games

Can anyone help me with a problem I am having. When playing certian games and using Messenger 6.1 my computer will freeze up on me. I used to be able to just exit the game and restart but since purchasing a new computer with Home XP I now have to do a co
mplete shutdown as the computer locks up completely. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a solution? Please help!!
