I'm having some trouble with a new(ish) PC. I've got it from a friend,
tried to install XP on it and got a lot of blue screens, kept re-trying,
tinkering with the BIOS etc but to no avail. Then I tried win2k and had

the
same problem. All the errors pointed to faulty RAM, I was going to send

it
back but before I did so I thought I'd try windows 98 which was on it
before. Strangely, this worked! The only thing that wasn't right was

that
the AMR modem was not installed, windows didn't know it existed, strange.
Next I tried XP again and it worked fine! Again no AMR modem.
Unfortunately I do not have another one to try. I'm at a bit of a loss

but
would appreciate 2 pieces of advice:-

1. A good testing program that will check everything is functioning
properly.
2. A piece of software that will tell me if the AMR slot or modem is at
fault.

Any other polite comments welcome!

Max

Ok seeing that nobody has gave you an answer try this, the power suply may
be to low rated, you mention nothing of what you have in terms of hardware
but at a guess id say athlon probably xp 2000 geforce card writer cd rom
floppy tv card sound card modem maybe even a network card 512 meg ddr a
couple of case fans you would require at least a decent 350 ps you probbably
have a 300 this is just speculation of course hope this helps

MemTest. XP is far more sensitive to RAM errors than w98.

Any other polite comments welcome!

Go **** yourself with a rabid sabre-toothed tiger.

Help at last. Thanks!

I have tried memtest86 and let it run for a bit, all seemed ok. I
have heard about incompatibility between generic RAM and certain
motherboards, does this sound realistic & would memtest86 pick this
up?

I couldn't help noticing your posting nick. Are you from the Indian
sub-continent by any chance? I ask because pudj is the word used in the
Pathan language to describe the labia of grossly fat women.
