1. You admit that Norton is hard to uninstall not mentioning the fact
that Norton programs Norton Programs, which means that Norton wants
them hard to uninstall. * As Norton wants their programs to be hard to
uninstall it stands to reason that Norton will do everything it can to
prevent the user from uninstalling Norton as long as they can get away

2. Norton is a virus and as such installs itself and as such it
attacks competing programs.

3. I cannot accept the fact that you are confused as to the meaning be

confused yourself. Went you asked if when I said “Norton Free” I only
meant that I wanted to get rid of Norton you were being absurd. *I
shouldn’t have to explain the meaning of the word “free.” When you

4. I said Norton was uninstalled for months before I got Elephant

not accusing you of being dishonest only desperate to avoid the
reality that Norton is a virus.)

5. I only stored image and text files on Elephant Drive.

6. I never ever did any kind of restore from Elephant Drive.

7. I moved image and text files from one computer to another with
Elephant Drive that is all.

8. MOST IMPORTANT a file named Norton Ghost was found on a secure part
of the Elephant Drive files.

Programmers protect certain files so their program will run reliably.
I just found out from an engineer at Elephant Drive that there was no
legal way a file named Norton Ghost would be found in where it was
found. It shouldn’t ever be found in those kinds of Elephant Drive
files.

The person from Elephant Drive made sure to say he was not accusing
Norton of anything only that the file shouldn’t have been there. I’m
sure people in the computer business are afraid of Norton (most Norton

Patrick was offering the right advice. The likely explanation for
your problem is that your earlier removal of Norton Anti Virus and
Norton Ghost. was not done in the correct way. This probably meant
that the removal tool was not able to work as it should. In this
situation one way to proceed would be to reinstall Norton Anti Virus
and Norton Ghost and then use the Norton removal tool. Given what
you have since tried I would not think this is now a feasible way to
proceed.

What was the precise version of the Norton product(s) installed? Did
you print off and study the instructions before using the Norton
removal
tool?http://www.symantec.com/norton/suppo...product_ts.jsp

The removal of Norton products has for years presented considerable
difficulties for the average user so it is not surprising that you
encountered difficulties. Many Technical Support staff often have not
been fully trained to handle the problems they are asked to resolve.
On the other hand they are often trying to help users who have
limited computing skills. The technical nature of the issues
involved can also cause difficulties when one explains to the other
what they are seeing and what has to be done.

Reading your latest post tells me that you are capable of confusing
whoever is listening to you. This is not intended as a criticism. My
feeling is based on seeing how you present information. An example of
this is how you say at one point you paid Norton and later you say
Norton did not charge! Also the this statement by you is ambiguous "I
have been Norton free for about 8 months."! Does this mean that
Norton was removed 8 months ago or your first attempt was 8 months
ago?

This statement suggests to me that you do not fully understand the
full implications of what you are saying "I would think I removed
Norton and it would rebuild it self. That’s right I would think it
was gone and a few days later it would return.". If Norton is
removed it stays removed unless you do something to restore it. Thus
if you restored your system from a backup then you would have Norton
again but that requires action by the user. Restoration does not
occur without user input. Norton Ghost is capable of providing
backup images. However you say you removed that programme. Elephant
Drive is an Online Data Storage system and it could be that you have
reintroduced Norton from restoring from your Elephant Drive
facility. We can only guess! It's for you to say whether this is
what you have done?

Your first post said "Norton Cannot Be Removed and Disables Competing
Products." Norton does interfere with programmes that try to make
changes to the Windows Registry. Users of Norton products need to be
aware of this and work round the problems this causes. However, there
are a number of other similar products that do similar things. What
anti-virus and anti-spyware programmes are you using? What firewall
are you using?

I should mention that the the first person who responded to your
request for help was a troll named "pcbutts1 [MS MVP]". There was
nothing wrong with his advice but he is not an MS MVP. Equally
Patrick Keenan amd myself are not an MS MVP but then we do not
pretend to be something we are not.

10. Norton Ghost is a backup program and as such is in competition

Months after Ghost was removed by experts it returned. My guess is
that Norton is burned into ROM by Dell. I’m not saying Ghost or any
other Norton product is installed in ROM only that there is
something in ROM that keeps Norton around and helps Norton attack
competing products.

That doesn’t work. I ran the removal tool several times before I

they manually removed the program. All the removal tool does is
hide the program it does not remove it.

If it isn't working for you, restart in Safe Mode as Administrator,

Default Norton Cannot Be Removed and Disables Competing Products.

Enough is enough. If you don't like the answers you get here, go somewhere
else like back to Norton. This is a newsgroup for XP new users. If your
machine came with Norton or you installed Norton it is your responsibility
to know that Norton does not have a totally reliable product (as you found
out.) If in doubt about a program, ask the question here before you install
it.

The best way to ensure that Norton is totally uninstalled, in your case, is
to totally reinstall Windows from scratch, don't use any of your backup
except for individual data files and your programs from their original
disks.

As for the MVP war, I'm not an MVP and don't really care to be one. I am on
this group to help others, not for any type of recognition. My advice is
generally sound, but like others, I occasionally make mistakes. So, whether
you have the right to use MVP or not, I don't really care. If you help
people to the best of your ability that is all that matters.

No don't hope anything of the kind. Your post was completely

Oh, now you're just ranting, all pretence at logic out of the

.... and 3. Because he's done nothing to substantiate the claim. If
John Doe claims he's the smartest person in the world, it's not anyone
else's responsibility to prove him wrong, it's *his* responsibility to
prove to everyone else that he's right.

An unsubstantiated claim like his is meaningless. If anything, its
main effect is simply casting further doubts on *everything* else he
says.

I was suspicious before the MS MVPs raised it as an issue.

You must have a reading comprehension problem. Show me and everyone else a
post from me giving out bad or wrong advice. Show me a post where my advice
has broke or caused harm to another computer. Show me a post where I just up
an attacked another person posting in this or any other group for no reason.
The bad attitude starts with the people in this group who reply to my post
with lies similar to what you have done stating that I am a thief and a
liar. For over three years now they have been attacking me and trying to get
rid of me and my website. I have been sued twice and won both of them. I
have had 3 DMCA violations fraudulently files against my website. I beat all
three. I have been contacted by the FBI investigating a complaint filed by
Christopher Butts, the person you all think I am, about harassing phone
calls apparently made to his job by the trolls in these newsgroup, why on
earth would anybody do that? The trolls listed in my sig and a few stupid
MVP's can't take failure and being wrong and being called out about it so
they keep nitpicking and attacking me. Watch how many reply to this post.
The fact is I am right and always have been, they can't handle the truth.
They can say what ever they want about me until they are blue in face that
does not make it true.

Default Norton Cannot Be Removed and Disables Competing Products.

I first used it with my pcbutts1 nickname 5 years ago. They didn't complain
then until Dave the thief stole my program passed it off as his own and
accused me of stealing it when he got called out on it. I stopped using it
when posting as pcbutts1,they didn't stop. That was years ago. Three weeks
ago I started using it again. I have the right to use it I will continue to
use it. Those idiots have a personal vendetta against me. I am not going to
stop just to "see" what they will do, I already know. You put too much trust
in those MVP's this is not their NG nor are they in charge.
