Default Computer lockup

Replaced the hard drive, reinstalled windows XP pro and my software. my
computer locks up after being idle for awhile screen goes black fans are
running hard, and the only way to get it back is to do a hard restart. any
help would be appreciated.

That was only a "fair" decision you made by putting the hd at fault..Do a
in depth chk & clean of video card,memory cards,& processor.Ram memory
connecting tabs get glazed after time,clean with #2 pencil eraser.Same with
video card tabs,do the same.The processors heat sink gets dirty,remove &
clean it,reinstall heat paste when replacing.Do all if able,also,memory can
be tested by microsoft memory tester,boot to software once it on a floppy or

I had the same problem for a while.I was quite inconsistant. For some
reason, I switched the position of my RAM. ie changed banks with the same
memory and my problem went away.....For a long time but now its back.
Now, I'll clean the tabs as Andrew E suggested.
