Default How do I disable screen to select user on bootup???

Hi Paul,
Right click on the desktop and select properties. On the display properties
page go to the screensaver tab and uncheck "On resume password protect".

Is there any way I can disable this 'feature'??

Paul

Go to Control Panel \ Display . Go to screensaver tab, and uncheck
"On resume, display Welcome screen".

Anando.. thanks for the reply.
Your suggestion only works for the resure from the screensaver sleep. It
does not work for boot up. I get this annoying prompt screen on bootup
to select the user.. I am the only user of the system, and never had
this before. Don't know what caused it, nor how to remove it permanently

I think Doug is right.. you need to tell it which user you want it to boot
up with automatically.. It sounds like you are booting up with another user.
In my case, there was a bit of panic too.. in that after the first bootup
after making the changes, my system hung! I too paniced, pressed the cpu
reset and rebooted, only to have the original problem back. I went thru all
the motions again, and it worked the next time. In my case, I simply left
the password blank, and it is now booting up without asking for either the
logon user or a password.. ie, I can boot up, get my coffee, and when I come
back I am ready to go! :=)

Did you enter the username that you wanted to use, as well as the

password?

Hello...
I have the same problem..having just installed that new Windows XP
.net update.

I tried the suggestion that you said works..and it both worked and
didn't work for me. I did.. start...run...and enter CONTROL
USERPASSWORDS2..uncheck the box for users must enter a username and
password...click apply..and provid the requested information
(password)..

After doing the above..I rebooted the machine..and was shocked when my
computer started as if it had lost all my desktop settings and icons
from software I installed since getting my new computer. In fact..the
Dell intro window opened and started playing music..just like when i
1st used the computer. True it didn't give me the nasty sign in
windo..but all my setting were lost as well..including the microsoft
shortcut bar i painstakingly created...(finding out how was a pain).

Well..in a panick mode..i reentered the CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 command
again..checked the box..and undid what I did.

Now I get that pain sign in window that .net put there..but at least I
got my old settings back.

question...

How do i get rid of the sign in window and not lose my desktop
setting???

I am sure that last windows update (a 23 MB .Net Framework update) did

this
to my system! Arghhh.. I hate that!

Hi Paul,
To automatically login without typing a password, type control
userpasswords2 at startrun. In the Windows 2000 style user accounts

page
that comes up next, uncheck the box "Users must enter a username and
password to use this computer". In the "Automatically logon" page that

comes
up when you hit apply, type in the username and password under which you
want the computer to login automatically and OK your way out.

Skully.. thanks for the reply..

Well, I unchecked it (god knows how it got checked in the first place,
cause I certainly never did it!) and time will tell if it works for

the
screen saver resume.. HOWEVER, it does NOT work on boot up.. I still

get
the user selection screen prompt on boot up, which I never did before.

any more ideas??

Paul
