That may be a good thing! j/k Take it up with Norton and/or the cleaners
you ran via support or forums.

By the way, caps aren't needed.

Default Try this manual uninstall first: NIS

Phil--

After spending a lot of time trying to make different versions of NIS, NAV,
and NSW compatible with XP SP2 (won't scan, auto-update won't turn on,
won't install won't uninstall), The key problem with Norton products is
that when they won't uninstall or uninstall well, problems will mount with
any future installs of the same Norton version of the particular software or
other versions. There are a high percent of uninstall problems with Norton.
I don't write code, so I'm not in a position to say whether writing
antivirus code has its own subset of problems for uninstalling and bugginess
in general, but Norton sure seems to have its share and also
disproportionate CPU use, both on Task Manager processes and when a scan
runs even with considerable RAM.

Because the "WMI patch" from Norton was delivered only via Live Update
instead of a download on Symantec/Norton's site (LU breaks a lot of time
with Windows SP2 on board), I'd have to agree there is a lot of wisdom in
Kelly's joke and Plato's comment. Norton wanted to sell as much 2005 as it
could and I think it designed last minute WMI release in relation to XP SP2
RTMing and lack of compatibility for older versions even with the WMI to
push new sales..

I think getting a clean uninstall of NIS might help you get it back up and
running well, so you might want to look at this Norton KB and some similar
ones on their site:

Removing Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall 2004 from
Windows 2000/XP after Add/Remove Programs does not work

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...sv=&osv_ lvl=

Also if you haven't used Kelly's site before take a good look at all the
great resources.

hth,

Chad Harris

Kelly, I was wondering if you were going to swing by the 98 general
newsgroup and say hello to everyone especially PCR and Gary Terhune. :

Hi Dan,

When I decide to Hang 'Em High and Paint the Town Red?

On a serious note, I don't get the chance to stop in there at all. I only
reply to the cross posts here. As for GAry T., he has always been my bud.
As for PCR, I have still yet figured out that "computer cookie". )
