winxp sp2 incomplete update problem

Dear All.

my friend's computer use 56K modem and intention update sp1 to sp2 but
before complete the update he cut off the connection. After then he find
his computer is blocked and can not use IE and OE to connect to internet.
Alwasys feedback can not locate the ISP server (dail up connection is OL).

Can you please advise how to return to his origional sp1. (he use 56K modem
to update to sp2 will take a long time) and he doesn't need sp2.
