Help! Power Failure & Now Can't Reboot
All:
A brief power outage has caused my Windows XP computer to behave badly. Upon a restart the following message and instructions appeared: Error: We appologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to ythe most recent settings that worked. If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally. Safe Mode Safe Mode with Networking Safe Mode with Command Prompt Last Known Good Configuration Start Windows normally Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice. All attempts including a successful reboot from Safe Mode return to this screen and Windows will not boot normally. When I chose the Last Known Good Configuration option the hard disk spun for several minutes but would still not boot. My goal is to salvage everything on my hard disk and get XP to boot properly instead of completely wiping out everything. I'm hoping that since I was able to boot in Safe Mode that this is possible. Please suggest some logic solutions for this problem. Thanks in advance, Moose |
