The clock on my Dell Inspiron 2500 Laptop will not keep
time. It seems to hold about 4 hours behind. I have set
and reset it. Is there a battery that might needing
replaced that I am not aware of?
Thanks for any help you can give.

There will probably be a cmos battery that needs replacing. Most pc
shops can do this for you. They're not very expensive.

Best of Luck

And just how would an almost-dead battery manage to "hold"
4 hours behind? There is a known issue, I believe, with
Dell and clock errors. The OP should visit Dell's website
and look into it.

I can well understand Kathy's reluctance to seek help from "Dell Online
Help". Recently I upgraded my Dell Dimension 8100 from Windows ME to XP
(purchased from the DELL Spare Parts Store). I encountered a problem which
only affects the DELL Dimension 8100 computer and no other make or model of
computer. I received a stock answer from Dell that they only supported
software originally supplied with my computer. I found the answer to the
problem with my Dell Dimension 8100 at www.microsoft.com. As far as I am
concerned the DELL online Help facility is as useless as a Duck's A**.

The battery on your PC's motherboard is running out of power. Open your
PC's case and you will see, on the board, a silver disk battery about 1cm in
diameter held to the board with a clip. make a note of the type, buy a new
one and replace it. You will find, I believe, that your clock then keeps
much better time.
