FOLDERS OPEN WITH EXPLORE COMMAND, NOT OPEN COMMAND.
hi people, hope someone can help....
when i double click any folder, it opens with the "explorer" command, instead of the "open" command. meaning, my folders now open with the explorer folder tree open on the left hand side of the folder window, instead of showing the "tasks" panel. i have tried several fixes i found at the microsoft support pages, ie: i have went to folder options, the explorer bar, removed the checkmark from "folders", but when i close the folder and re-open it, it resets back to opening with the explorer tree again. i have opened the folder, and went to toolsfolder optionsview, and have "applied (these settings) to all folders", and i have "reset all folders" to try and get them back to default. i have also noticed that when i open a folder, and close out the explorer tree, all of my icons on my desktop seem to flash and reset themselves as well. i dont know if that is connected. one other thing that i have noticed. if i right click a folder on my desktop, the top command you see in the pop up box is "explore", and the second command is "open". "open" used to be the top command, and "explore" second. so, i can right click any folder and click on "open" and the folder will open correctly, just like it is supposed to, with the "tasks" panel on the left, and my icons for that folder on the right side of the window. i can think of nothing i have installed, or uninstalled that would have changed the folder options commands. very strange. i appreciate any help, any comments from anyone else who has or has had this issue. thanks, russell |

FOLDERS OPEN WITH EXPLORE COMMAND, NOT OPEN COMMAND.
i want to say that as i was posting this problem, i looked down at a post
called FOLDER OPTIONS, posted by AL HUF. a MR MILLER replied to his problem, which seemed to be the exact opposite of mine. here were mr millers instructions.. If you want ALL folders to open with the folder pane displayed, go to: Control Panel - Folder Options - File Types - hi-lite "Folder" (NOT "File Folder") - click 'Advanced' - hi-lite "explore" - click 'Set Default' and 'OK' your way out. i followed mr millers instructions, but where mr huf needed to default to EXPLORE, i just hi-lited OPEN and defaulted that. my defaults had changed to EXPLORE and this fix reset my defaults to OPEN, and now my folders open the way they are supposed to, the way they always did. thank you mr miller. good work. FOLDERS OPEN WITH EXPLORE COMMAND, NOT OPEN COMMAND.
Hi there,
My problem is it'll open 'Search' instead of 'Explore'. I have been scanning discussions below, seems helpful but not quite working for me. I am unable to open any folder without having to right-clickopen, when double-click, it went to 'Search' files & folder. 'Search' command is now at the top of the right-click menu tasks, it took over 'Open' & 'Explore', both are now below 'Search'. Most discussions below relate to only either 'Open' or 'Explore'. Please help, I have been trying with the answers by your team on discussions below. Regards, Mark Yip "Russell" wrote: i want to say that as i was posting this problem, i looked down at a post called FOLDER OPTIONS, posted by AL HUF. a MR MILLER replied to his problem, which seemed to be the exact opposite of mine. here were mr millers instructions.. FOLDERS OPEN WITH EXPLORE COMMAND, NOT OPEN COMMAND.
I have been having a similar problem. All my folders used the search command
when i tryed to double click. Also all my folder icons have been changed to the first icon in the change icon area. I have tried to change the icon back to the yellow folder, but it will not change. I can change to other icons, but not the two yellow folders. Also the back and forwards arrows would not work. I have used the replies below to fix the search command but it did not fix my icons. I have tried going into folder options and changing the folder icon, but it will not let me. Any ideas on how to change the default folder icon back to the yellow folder? and reset all my folders too? Please help, I have tried reading the messages regarding this, but have not found any with the icon problem as of yet. Sherri G "Mark Yip" wrote: Kelly, You're a STAR !!
