replace mobo in current case, detail question...

Currntly have a GTWY with one of those compact suitcase
sized cases which I like. Has only a 1.4 Celeron
processor. Would like to replace the board w/ current
Pent based mobo, updated graphics, dual mon support etc.
However size is called a 'flex' board. Cant find a board
of 'flex' size but have the dims. Many boards out there
close but how to mount?
Current board secured with ONE thumbscrew and then 4
standoffs at each corner. Suggestions other than buy a
new computer please???

Doesn't sound like a Windows XP problem. Sounds more like a GTWY
motherboard problem. Try a GTWY newsgroup.

mobos.

It would be cheaper for you to also buy an "new case" for the newer board.
GTWY computer are unique.

Case, power supply, and motherboard were designed as a set,and with a
Celeron in mind. It's going to be difficult to find a motherboard that will
mount properly, then when you do, you'd find that the power supply is vastly
underpowered. And if you cross that hurdle you might find that the case is
going to have overheating problems with a P4 and better video card. Not to
mention that low profile cards can be hard to find.

Here's another thing to consider: if XP came with that computer, it's going
to choke and die when it encounters a non-gateway motherboard, and you'll be
buying that, too.

You're really better off keeping that gateway for as long as it lasts,
as-is, and buy or build another computer to your specs. You can find plenty
of smaller case styles that will accommodate an off-the-shelf motherboard as
long as you get the right one.

you ALL are right. Nothing like leading ones' self down a
path of briars!!!! THANKS for your precise info and
comments. As a long time off the beaten path kinda guy, I
had toyed with: A a Shuttle, and B a tablet PC. Anyhoo,
much appreciated.
