Default Weird mouse problem

My Intellimouse Explorer 3 has developed a peculiar problem with the left
button, if I use it with my fingers normally placed I start getting strange
errors when selecting text, particularly block selecting.

It will get so far in highlighting it and then it's like the button releases
itself,
this will happen in games too when selecting units, or I will get random cut
and paste errors when I'm not even trying to do this.
The really strange thing is that if I operate the button with my finger
towards the rear of the button it all works fine.

Now have a couple of years of gaming taken their toll of this poor
overworked button or is there anything I could possibly do to try and
clean it or whatever?

I've never heard of anything like this before, any ideas guys?

Yep, sounds like the microswitch is a little naffed. They're quite
delicate inside those buttons, and each little clicker is kind of like
a long rectangle so it's probably a case of when you press in a
certain place you get a good connection and otherwise the connection
is only semi done. Sounds like replacement time.

Cheers Paul, I took it apart and I see what you mean so I might change
brand and see how that goes, this is the second Explorer that has failed
on me now (well..ok, the first one was because a chinchilla bit through
the cable, but if Microsoft had only had the simple foresight to include
armoured cable it could so easily have been avoided)

I'm none too impressed with the sticky pads covering the screws either,
why can't they use an adhesive that can cope with the pads being
dropped onto a hairy carpet? when will they learn eh?

:O) I just had to pull my mouse apart last night, thought I'd broke it
completely when I put it together and it didn't work then realized it
had a hidden connect button. I thought, what's the point in hiding the
damned thing?
