Hi,

Just to add, I've already heard ~6 reports of this today (which albeit doesn't sound like a
lot, but ratio wise it's noticeable) so there is an actual problem here (server-side).

Hi,

I'm willing to accept that it's another problem, the error codes are based on either what
the server is returning or simply where it stops in the login process -- as such, my
assumption can easily be incorrect.

They're not random (obviously by balancing or simply by order in which user is registered,
unfortunately I'm not privy to that exact information now). I can tell you that they're
not by region however -- locale information is simply one entry in each user's account. As
well, the Messenger servers are located in Southern California.

Thank you Johnathan. After reading replies after your statement, if it works
on one machine and not another - Mohamed, are you using the same account to
login with? If so, Johnathan, your stament of being localized to a small
number of users cannot be quite correct, OR, Mohamed has a different problem
all together with the first machine they tried.

Are the user accounts stored on your servers randomly or by geographic/IP
address? I am in Northern Indiana and I too am having this same error. I am
also getting complaints from other users in my company using their personal
accounts to sign in and are unsuccessful.

And were is this status page you speak of? I tried to find Messenger's
site, but am getting redirected to the new Live site. I thought it use to be
www.msn.com/messenger....

Thanks for your time!

Greetings,

This is a server-based server and usually a localized problem within a small amount of
accounts.

Unless the entire or majority of the service is down for an extended period, the system
status page won't change.

Hi, I joined this forum specifically to solve this error.
This has happened since yesterday.
I've googled this and have tried all the methods - all have NOT worked.

This is getting on my nerves. It also appears not to work on the other
computer in the house.

I'm in Singapore.

Hi all -
I am in the St. Louis area, and we are unable to log into messenger
this morning, either from home or from work. Sporadic logins available
yesterday, but not a good situation.

What is being done?

Val

I'm located in Singapore, South East Asia

This problem has happened since last night, at about 11PM in my area (+8GMT)
I tried to log in this afternoon (about 2PM). It was successful, but it
suddenly went off again

This problem is the same for the both computers in my house.

Hey to all of you:
here you have a great solution that has worked fine for me and several
others:

Go to Start Run and type "regsvr32 softpub.dll" without the
quotes, then hit ok.
Ps. in Windows Vista there's no run, so just type "cmd" (without the
quotes) in
the start search box and hit enter

Good luck!

I was getting knocked off yesterday, then eventually could not log in -
got the 81000314 error message. I tried the diagnostics that poped up -
said I could not make an HTTP connection - but had to look at a log file
- forgot where it came from - sorry. This maybe coincidently started
after Microsoft pushed a bunch of security updates for XP Media Center.

I'm using Live Messenger 8.5.1302.x

I'm not sure how I fixed the problem, but here's what I did:
1) downloaded and updated new firmware for my Linksys router (I've been
meaning to do this anyhow).
2) Tried to log in again and got same error (wasn't the problem)
3) Ran the diagnostics again - which showed everything is OK, then
tried the Repair option.
4) I happened to notice Symantic's Norton Protection Center (piece of
junk) had a dialog box hidden in the background to authorize a program's
access to the internet, which I allowed - I think it was for the
Diagnistics.
5) I went into the Messenter Tools, following the Microsoft diagnostics
steps:

1. Click the Tools menu, and then click Options.
2. Under Connection, click Advanced Settings.
3. In the Settings dialog box, click Test in the HTTP section. When the
test results appear in the Connection Tester dialog box, click OK.
4. Click OK, and then click OK again.

Everything worked OK. so I went back to the Connections menu and
clicked on the Refresh button. I don't remember if there were other
steps, but I asked it to connect, and for some reason it worked.

I'm not sure what fixed the problem. I suspect the Microsoft security
updates was not interacting with Norton Protection Center properly. Just
a theory.

Good luck everyone.
