The software you use dies not matter, If you use the Internet your data
will be monitored. Want total privacy, disconnect your computer from the
Internet.

Surprised you still want to use the MS crap on your PC considering they
have been providing spying capabilities to the US Govt.

I'm boycotting all US products now. The US is the biggest war monger of
them all!

Feedback such as "we want a start menu, not just a start icon", think
they'll listen?

I doubt it. They certainly seem to have got the message that they have
made
a giant cock-up with Windows 8, but it's going to take more than a free
copy of Outlook with the enterprise versions to rectify things - 8.1 will
*not* do it. They are going to have to do something quite remarkable to
prise most people away from Windows 7.

I did read the "contract" regarding privacy and info retrieved with
win8 for microsoft. The thing is using win8, the user agrees that ms
can extract ALL "Standard" info on the computer & supply the info to
others. So, what are "standard" info on the computer? Does it include
the os & some apps & date?

I only have win8 on the laptop which is used just for streaming some
internet video to the TV via hdmi.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...t?T1=statement

"When you use software with Internet enabled features, information about
your computer ("standard computer information") is sent to the websites
you visit and online services you use.

Standard computer information typically includes information such as

your IP address
operating system version
browser version
regional and language settings

In some cases, it may also include a hardware ID, which indicates the
device manufacturer, device name, and version.

If a particular feature or service sends information to Microsoft,
standard computer information will be sent as well.
"

And the main document, goes into the details of subsystems and what
info they collect. Some of the items will seem dumb, like the
fact the computer uses encryption keys held in memory to do bitlocker.
I expect they make this statement as long as it is, to keep people
from reading the whole thing. I would start at the bottom and work
backwards.

You're in the wrong newsgroup - you want the
alt.childrens.invent.a.conspiracy.theory group - but tidy up your quoting
or they will shout at you.

What I find frustrating with the US Govt is on the one hand they say
they champion the free world and champion democracy, yet their actions
often create new problems, hence my outrage at this latest news about
the NSA. By default all non US-Citizens are enemies of the US.

What would be better for them and other govts is to just come clean on
the scope and capabilities of their systems as this will have a greater
effect in curtailing or deterring disobedience, than going about it in
secret, unless there are other nefarious activities and reasons for
keeping this quiet.

That's the history of our country. We have often done things that have
later backfired on us.

Don't you think that people who do not know they are being watched would
act differently if they knew they were being watched?

Such skill and grace.

Why have a preview at all ?

They had to learn their way in a hard way.
And as usual, with a MS application - those
loyal users of their software, will suffer
most and will have to work harder for
a new "Windows 8.1 upgrade"...-

Opportunistic crimes would fall.
Did you know most career criminals started off as opportunistic
criminals?

The US and these companies like MS have screwed up.

First post in this thread has a link to an article that states an ETA for the Preview version as June 26th.
RTM is expected, but yet to documented with an exact date, as late 2013.
