Default How to run DOS QB program that uses COM Port?

jay
sorry - missed your 'compatibility statement'
you might try - ie
cnet - zdnet - tucows - etc - for any
equivalents as freeware - shareware - etc

Now that I'm convinced XP is a REAL OS and stable, I
want to run my home alarm system as an XP application.
It is a compiled QuickBasic program that runs in DOS
and talks to a RS232/485 converter at 9600bps on COM2.

With the alarm program on my C drive, I can boot the
computer with a Win98Se boot floppy (Windows 98
[Version 4.10.2222]), navigate to C and run the alarm
program just fine.

Running the program directly under XP, as an MS-DOS
app or using cmd to run it causes the program to run
but the alarm program doesn't communicate on COM2.

I've tried the XP compatibility selections to no avail.

Suggestions? I really don't want to learn Visual Basic
and rewrite the program if I can avoid it! It seems
to me that XP ought to be able to communicate on COM2
as well as DOS.
