Default Upgrade Options?

(Running Vista Ultimate 64-bit, SP-2, IE-8, WM-6,
WLM-09, classic mode, dial-up.)

If I want to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 64-bit to
Windows-7 Ultimate 64-bit, what are my options?

Download from a MS site?
Buy a DVD or CD from a MS site?
Buy a DVD or CD from some other site?
Buy a DVD or CD from a local retailer, such as Staples,
Office Depot, etc?
Other?

What are the pros and cons of the two most commonly
used approaches?

Many thanks.

I would do one of the ones listed below.
Probably Walmart or Sams Club or Newegg online.
I hate downloaded software.
