The easiest way to test your camera is to take your own photo with your camera in the lid by going to: Settings Accounts Your Info Then you need to click on the Camera Icon as shown in this pictu [ alt-no ] https://i.imgur.com/SWloY10.png You don't need to install anything to use your own camera. Can you tell us whether your laptop is from big brands such as DELL, HP, LENOVO, Toshiba etc etc. these companies will give you everything to get started quickly. Hope this helps. -- With over 999 million devices now running Windows 10, customer satisfaction is higher than any previous version of windows. |

(Click MS Icon on left end of the toolbar) On the left, the third icon from the top (a series of `-----) scroll down to camera and click -- Judge your ancestors by how well they met their standards not yours. No matter what I click, nothing happens. Can you help? That's a URI, and it's supposed to open the "Windows Store App". This one for example, if issued in MSEdge browser in the address bar, would vector you to the Windows Store application and have it locate the App to switch Win10 S to vanilla Win10 (similar to an Anytime Upgrade operation). ms-windows-sto//switchwindows It's a Uniform Resource Indicator because it defines a specific protocol only the Store App understands. ******* In the picture you provided, I don't see the Windows Store icon in the Task Bar. I've lost the Windows Store icon twice, and I think in one case at least, the "app reinstall" Powershell stuff worked to get it back. But the bugs in Windows Store are "Win10 Release" specific, so each generation of OS has different flaws. For example, at one time, something called the Tile Cache might be breaking it. Whereas today, something else is probably breaking it. https://windowsreport.com/microsoft-...-after-update/ I would rate this six out of ten, in terms of "annoying" :-) You would think the Windows Store app, which generates multiple billions of dollars a year, would be worth making into a reliable application... Shirely some manager suffers hair loss when a copy of that goes missing... again. Paul |

One developer forked that and made a commercial version which was sold. The BTWINCAP project offers a version, and it's sort of the middle ground between the payware one and the original scrawny one. It might still need permission settings to work. Remember that Windows 10 has a FrameServe implementation, which means you aren't actually talking directly to the camera. Sure, Device Manager has an entry. When a program "selects" a camera, it's likely actually selecting a spigot on FrameServer. And FrameServer pulls video from the camera. And when FrameServer pulls video, it doesn't just use any old mode. For some reason I think it tried to select an uncompressed mode. Skype had some sort of "test call" setup, but I don't remember if you could actually verify the webcam that way or not. I think that might have been about as close to using Skype as I ever got. Click on Audio and Video. If the camera is working, you should get a camera view. My system is extremely slow, and it's an external webcam. So it takes a couple of seconds for the camera to kick in. I understand Skype has a "Test Call" feature, and you might be able to do some testing that way. I can't remember though, whether my Test Call was multimedia or just audio. Like, this page suggests the Test Call is audio only. https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA2...echo-test-call ******* The problem with most applications on Windows, is a lack of camera controls. The Camera App does have resolution choices (even if they're daft). But it lacks custom controls such as "RightLight" and "AutoFocus", which could be camera specific and are not a part of UVC Class necessarily. On Linux, GUVCView has the necessary control panel, whereas Cheese doesn't. Windows generally is worse off in this regard, in that you may find one control panel in your travels, and that's about it. If Microsoft would allow the proprietary software to work, it wouldn't be as much of a problem. But the FrameServer crap can break the proprietary software install. And I'm not particularly motivated to keep buying new hardware, just to solve "OS indigestion" problems. Paul |

I've not played with it enough to know how extensive the testing is. My mic and camera work on W7 and W10. Since the same hardware is involved for W8 as W7, I'm assuming it works there too. I've yet to set up the webcam on my Mac Mini. Contrast, brightness, etc. It all installed automatically when I hooked it up. However, the Logitech I installed on W10 did not install anything. As I rarely use w10, and Skype there even less, I've never bothered to check Logitech's site out for a different driver. On Linux, GUVCView has the necessary control panel, whereas Cheese doesn't.
