Windows 7 Networking
I decided to change to Windows 7 since I was starting with a new
install. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a new computer. The installation went very smoothly. But I cannot see the WinXP computer in the network. WinXP can see drives that I shared on Win7. But when I try to access them, I am told "...is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions." On the Win7 computer, I have set permissions to "Everyone-Full Control" Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

As of Vista, Microsoft has introduced a new network protocol called Link Layer Topology Discovery. XP SP2 appears to not have the required "responder" so you may need to install it: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en |

Windows 7 Networking
Hi
Hi Make sure that the Software Firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall On, Vista/XP Native Firewall should be Off, and the active Firewall has to adjusted to your Network IP numbers on what is some time called the Trusted Zone (consult your 3rd Party Firewall instructions. General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#trusted On Win 7 use the Work Network setting (Not the HomeGroup). Windows 7 Work Network, http://www.onecomputerguy.com/window...s7_sharing.htm Windows XP File Sharing - http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;304040 Printer Sharing XP -http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/honeycutt_july2.mspx Windows Native Firewall setting for Sharing XP -http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875357 Windows XP patch for Sharing with Vista (Not need for XP-SP3) - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922120 When done hard reboot all network computers and the Router.
