Default new scanner/error message

When attempting to use a new scanner, I get an error message ID 3055: ASPI
for Windows is not initialized. What does this mean and what should I do?

Go to the manufacturer's web site and look around for support documents.Your scanner
may have shipped with an outdated driver.

Did you install the software BEFORE connecting the scanner? When this is
done it will tell you when to connect it.
