Default Removing unnecessary Files/Directories from C:\WINDOWS on WIN/XP

Hi,
I have constant problems with my C: Disk caused by the huge amount of data
in the WINDOWS Directory. I would really like to see a document that
describes in detail which directories can be emptied and which files can be
deleted. For example, why can't one throw away the contents of the
Windows\Installer or the Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads directory.
Are there other files and directories that can be junked.
