Default How to Repair or Restore WMI

An ancient Toshiba satellite laptop will not instal PCI
wireless modem software correctly, reporting damage to
or bad configuration of the WMI (Windows Management
Instrumentation) system. OS has been upgraded to
SP3 and all other functions run OK. MS web site has much
information about WMI but I could see no way to test or
correct my sort of error. There must be an alternative
to reinstalling the OS from the Toshiba system CDs (with only SP1)
