Creators Upgrade Stops dead
Got a problem trying to install creators upgrade.
Laptop with 4GB mem. The upgrade runs for a few hours then when I look at it it has completely stalled ... no activity, blank screen but machine still on. All I can do is hard power down and then switch on again. At this point the system tries to recover and eventually decides to restore my current version of Windows 10. So upgrade is not performed in the end. No idea what is causing the halt as there is no info on the screen. This has happened 3 times now. Any ideas how to resolve? TIA. -- Wilf |

There may be a slight difference, between a Windows Update orchestrated upgrade, versus running setup.exe off a 15063 DVD. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...upgrade-errors And the basic format of the log would be: positive going steps as the install progresses oopsy, maybe not labeled in any bold way in the text steps to unroll the install, many hundreds of lines As a result, you may have to scroll back from the bottom a fair ways, to figure out where the "oopsy" is buried. One difference between a Windows Update Upgrade and the DVD type, is WU stages drivers in advance. Whereas the DVD can run your screen with a Basic Display Adapter (VESA) driver, show you the regular desktop, with a notification dialog stating "I'm looking for a video driver now". The DVD method, running setup.exe off it, avoids any (slight) driver errors that might bollox the install on you. I prefer the DVD method, because it caps my downloads at 4GB. Whereas a net install (windows update), who knows how many times it's going to download that stuff again and again. Have fun, Paul |

TIA. are you doing it automatic upgrade over the internet or have you downloaded the full iso of Windows? I suggest download the full iso of Windows and save it either in a removable flash drive or at the root of your C drive. Once it is download, right-click on the ISO file and extract the files using 7-ZIP. Edge can also unzip it but the instructions are quite complicated so just use 7-zip. Once the unzip is finished, you will need to browse to the unzipped folder until you see a file called setup.exe. you can't miss this. You can then press the shift key and right-click any where in the blank space and select as shown in this pictu http://i.imgur.com/JmXfXrp.png http://i.imgur.com/JmXfXrp.png Once you are at the cmd prompt, just type: setup.exe /auto upgrade This will do the trick and you will be able to finish in about 1 hour. Don't switch off the machine because the screen might appear to freeze but it is working in the background. Good luck. -- If you want to filter all of my posts then please read this article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/organize-your-messages-using-filters In step 7 select "Delete" With over 500 million devices now running Windows 10, customer satisfaction is higher than any previous version of windows. |

Disabling the driver signature and using a DVD with the upgrade worked. https://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how...igned-drivers/ |

I'm using windows 10 upgrade assistant, not a downloaded iso. I will try that and see whether it sorts out my problem. -- Wilf |

I chose to update at the start of a long weekend when I am here to resolve issues instead of having the update occur in the middle of the night when I am out of town. Is that OK with you?
