Jumplist
I was looking at a screen image of the Windows 10 Properties menu from
the taskbar. After all of the gripping about the lack of an XP type start menu in Windows 8, has Microsoft removed not only the Windows 8 start menu, but also the most useful feature of Windows 8 for the researcher, the Jumplist? I do a lot of research on my laptop, so have a lot of document images. As I write the jumplist short cuts, were great. Since each jumplist had 8 to 10 recently opened files for each program pinned to the taskbar, the documents I need were accessible with a right click on the program icon. This was much easier finding the document I needed, without going through File Explorer, or through the menus in the XP type start menu. It also provided access to more recently used documents that the 8 or 10 on the old XP menu. While they are bringing back a the XP Start button, I hope they retain the Windows 8 MS Icon menu that offered easy access to all of the computer function with a right click on that icon. It was much easier to right click the MS icon click system and have all of the things I need to do available. Since the functions were spelled out it was much easier to use than a cryptic icon. |

From the BUILD conference video. http://i61.tinypic.com/vcqkra.jpg I have no idea what that's for, but that's some sort of commitment to jump lists. Paul |

Paul From Windows 8 and 8.1 you could go to the Modern Start menu and attach (pin) the programs you wanted to the desktop taskbar. You could also go to the Apps section and pin programs to the Modern Start page. Once a program was pinned (Attached) to the taskbar, a list (jumplist) of all recently opened programs could be found by right clicking on the Taskbar program icon. If there was a document or picture that you accessed often you could pin (attach) it to the jumplist. I have pinned File Explorer to the desktop taskbar. Subsequently all folders I have accessed are readily available on the jumplist form the File Explore Icon on the taskbar. I have also pin frequently accessed folders to the File Explore jumplist. |
