Default Mini-XP replacement

If you've ever used Hiren's Boot Disk, you've seen Mini-XP.

Is there a similar program or boot disk that runs under 7, 8.1, and 10?

What do you mean by "runs under"???
It boots whatever version it boots.

There is a bootable version of windows 10.
I didn't find it useful. YMMV.

Mini-XP doesn't seem to like the newer 64 bit machines we are now
seeing come into the shop.

So something that's more 64 bit friendly would be nice.

We'll try to track it down, thanks.

Here's a lifehacker article:

How to Run a Portable Version of Windows from a USB Drive

He likes Win 8 rather than 7 because of the USB situation.

You can always temporarily disable uefi and enable CMS mode in BIOS,
then boot Mini-XP and do whatever you want.

You can also try DLC Boot CD...

While there's no clear cut answer here, the participants may be
noticing the problem. A UEFI machine perhaps, without CSM,
with or without SecureBoot, requiring some sort of signed
boot loader to get it working.

You'll have to be a Level 34 Wizard to get that working :-)

And the reason for the "jumping through hoops" is because
the machines weren't designed to be "maintained". They're
designed to be "rode hard, and thrown away like a cheap suit".

Thanks, Mike.

I've heard of Win2USB before, but totally forgot about it.

I haven't read the article in depth yet, but it occurs you could do this
for 7, 8, and 10.

Surely Gandalf the White can handle it. LOL

Unfortunately, Gandalf died about a year and a half ago... (see
alt.hacker newsgroup). he used to maintain the alt-hacker.org domain.

or were you referring to a different Gandalf?

I'm pretty sure it's someone else. Our Gandalf died before Win10 was a thing,
I believe. Also, I rather doubt he'd do a warez version of Windows.

(Good sigmonser. Have a cookie.)
