just a little more help please
Almost have my Home LAN fixed.
Using a Linksys router, with 4 XP PRO machines. Assigned IP addresses. I can now ping all computers. If I switch to show Workgroup I can see and access all computers and all drives. It's only in Network Places that a couple of drives still won't show up. I've set and reset sharing many times. But some drives will only show up on a couple of computers and not on others. I think it's something with my attempt to change a computers name. At least that's how it started. Anybody have the one magic bullet? Please and thank you. -- ----------------------------------------------------- Love may be blind but marriage is a real eye-opener. ----------------------------------------------------- Bill H. in Chicagoland |

My magic bullet is to add a network place and enter the
location manually. i.e. \\computerName\sharedFolder Instead of browsing through the network. Another way of doing this is to enter the IP address of the computer you're trying to reach. I believe that most Linksys routers store the MAC addresses of the computers connected to it and assigns them the same IP when they connect to the network. Try entering the IP of the computer as well. Hope this helps, Nick nkjg/at\interchange/dot\ubc/dot\ca -----Original Message----- Almost have my Home LAN fixed. Bingo, that did it.
All the links, FAQ's, web sites I visited, none gave me a clue to such an easy fix. Thanks, owe you a beer or two. "nkjg" wrote in message ... That seems to work for the OTHER computers on my home LAN.
I now have each in a 'Group' on the My Network Places screen. But it won't show the host computer in it's own group, just under 'unknown' and if I go to a drive, and try to return, it 'refreshes' and takes a long time to display the screen.
