Using two different Office apps to do the test...2007 on one machine
and 2003 on another completely negates any findings and totally makes
for "flawed" results.

Do you suppose there is an analogy between Windows Vista and Windows ME?
One at this point sorta reminds one of the other....

MS is now talking about a newer OS...."Windows 7".

P.S. From what I have read XP SP3 surprised even MS with the results that
are being obtained from it, while Vista SP1 seems to be in a depressed mode.
But then what I am reading is probably flawed in some way or other.

The search feature is definitely faster. Notice the word "find" is
the first word used after "faster and easier" in the ad.
Frank

There's no free lunch and that includes 'Find'.

There's an old joke about human nature being based on studies done on
mice and college sophomores - neither of which are human.

For most commercial applications, speed is almost irrelevant. If, for
example, Microsoft Word were five times faster, the time to compose a
letter would drop by, um, 0.01%.

The folks who fixate on speed are open source developers and dedicated
gamers, neither of which ...

Even ms touts vista using the term "faster". So although ms might not be
fixated on speed, it certainly is touting "faster" as a major "plus"
aspect of the os, however irrelevant it might be in your view.

Clearly some people (vista users) prefer bloat over performance.

"MS is now talking about a newer OS...."Windows 7"."
Very true, but that has little to do with Windows Vista and more to do
with the future products.
This is not new talk at all.
Development of Windows 7 really started the moment Windows Vista went
Gold and in some ways, earlier.
That has always been the case with Microsoft.
But that is in not unique to Windows or even computers or technology.

Find a company that is not planning their next product regardless of
the success of their current product.
And you will see a company in their last days of their last product.

You need to reread the article. Whether the results cited in the article
are accurate or not, it states that xp sp3 is faster than vista or
vista with sp1.

At microsoft.com users with XP SP3 BETA,say it is faster than vista, but
2X faster is never mentioned among any, slightly faster is about right.

Doesn't seem to have helped you find the other half of your brain that you
left on the battlefield. So do keep up with those meds and like your mom
always tells you - DON'T TAKE THAT CORK OFF YOUR FORK. IT'S THERE TO
PROTECT YOU SON.

Cheers.

Forget it...that was posted days ago and the test used was severely
flawed. Frank

How would you know anything about tests Frankie Boy? The last test you took
(and didn't pass by the way) was the Grade Four reading test.

BTW, Frank, do read my sig for further help.

Cheers.

You can't read or what?
It's old...and it's flawed...therefore it's not dependable as a benchmark.
Frank

Read your beloved MickeyMouse EULA Frankie Boy. Vista users aren't allowed
to benchmark and publish their results. So be nice and stop abusing the
EULA or MickeyMouse will kill your computer.

Cheers.

PS. Do read my sig Frank ... it contains very useful info that can help you.

The phrase used in the article was "they ALSO (my emphasis) tested Vista
with Office 2007" - ie AFTER the benchmark tests were performed. I don't
think Frank read the article as well as he pretends to have done...

I am not impressed with their pricing strategy outside the US.

I emailed MS UK to ask why retail copies of Vista in UK were DOUBLE the cost
of Vista in the US, given the exchange rate of 2$ to the £, and in the reply
was the wonderful statement "one factor in determining the retail price in
the UK is the GDP per head"!!!!!!!!!!
As a Management Accountant of many years standing I have NEVER EVER seen ANY
organisation use "GDP per Head" as part of their pricing strategy! And that
backfired on them as the GDP per head in the US is higher than that of the
UK! When I put that to MS UK they became remarkably silent....
