Default Lifecam vx5000 - save video/photo buttons greyed out

Hi,

In the lifecam software the save video/photo buttons at the bottom of the
window are permanently greyed out. I've tried selecting different resolutions,
but it doesn't seem to help (the "zoom" button works ok at lower resolutions
than the max, which is how I believe its supposed to work). I'm using the
latest version of the LifeCam software (v.2.04).

I tried following this http://support.microsoft.com/?id=933311
seemed like good generalized lifecam troubleshooting advice, but it didn't
help. any suggestions? not sure if this is the right group for this question.
