PIM for Windows 7
I'm retired and am looking for a calendar based PIM to keep track of
appointments that I could use on my Windows 7 laptop. I own MS Outlook but it is overkill especially as I do not use it for email or anything else. Google calendar would work but it is in the cloud and I would like something that I could keep on my laptop and off the cloud. Any suggestions? Thank you. Jeff |

Jeff Here's some good places to start your search: http://download.cnet.com/windows/cal...ment-software/ http://www.efficientcalendar.com/ They offer a portable version that runs off a USB stick, handy, since you wouldn't be limited to your own machine. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2267016,00.asp And a bunch more that I found by searching on "calendar software free". I am using an earlier version of Thunderbird (Tbird 2), and Lightning as shown only works for Tbird 9+. Do you know of an earlier version of Lightning, or its equivalent? -- Crash Committed to the search for intraterrestrial intelligence. |

Also imports ics files which is great. Does it have a portable version for flash drive? |

Don't forget with the "Provider for Google Calendar" extension you can link Lightning to your Google Calendar (easy enough to set an account up if you haven't got one). You can then access it from anywhere you happen to be, and grant access to others if you so wish. I use that indirect set-up to sync Thunderbird/Lightning on my Linux Laptop, via the Google calendar, with my Microsoft Office calendar (via another little sync program in Outlook). I've got the same set-up on a USB stick too. -- Bob Tetbury, Gloucestershire, UK I want to die in my sleep like my grandfather did - not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car. |

Jeff I've been using EPIM for years. http://www.essentialpim.com/ It's perfect for all my needs. The database, or databases if your wife wants to use it, can be encrypted and saved anywhere. There's even a portable edition and a totally free edition with only a few limitations. The calendar is very good, and so is the Password module. |
